Glance backwards. Summer still lingers but with every autumn leaf that falls, she gets farther away. Good thing we have photographs to remember her by.

They Can't Be Stopped

You cannot stop them. The weather is hot and Copenhageners head for the beach or the harbour at every opportunity. Every day of the week.




All along the harbour Copenhageners hang out, swim, sun themselves, drink beer, flirt and enjoy the heat. Ten years ago, the harbour was filled with commercial shipping and not at all fit for swimming. Now it is a refreshing focal point in the urban landscape of the city.





Me, I'm off to summer house in Sweden for a day or so. Marie is travelling around Europe researching bicycle culture. She was just in Amsterdam where she hooked up with our kindrid spirit Marc, from Amsterdamize.com. He blogged about her visit and their bike ride here and, being a Dane, she promptly drank him under the table.

It's summer. It's beach weather. It's sticky hot all day and all night. In Copenhagen we're spoiled for beaches and, like anywhere else, we flock to them whenever we can.

Oooozing

So many days of the year, Copenhagen is covered in clouds, rain or even snow. When the sun decides to pop by, everyone goes out of their way to get out. Frequently accompagnied by the faithful 'garden gate' or 'havelåge', as the bike is called teasingly in Danish.

Bike Blondes

Not all Danish girls are blond. And not all of Copenhagen's girls bike...
But some do. A lot, actually, and they do it with summerly laid-back grace.









And while we're not shy about our affection for The Cycling Girl here on the blog, here's a bike that accomodates seven of them at once. Fourteen heels. And a dog.

Rainbow Biking

The Danish summer is full of rain AND sun. Thus, all kinds of rainbows fill the streets...







As we've stated earlier at copenhagenize.com, colours make bikes and their owners stand out. They are a savoury spice to a rolling bike culture. Bring them on!

Heels and Patterns

Copenhagen Bike Culture Colours. As long as we keep hearing "people ride in HEELS there?!" we'll keep showing that they do.

Hmm. I many have discovered another pattern here. For the second time in a couple of weeks I've seen a Copenhagen Supermum with a cargo bike with heels, steering with her right hand and holding her keys in her left hand.

I cleaned up the bikes at the summer house. They came with the place, two lovely old school bikes and an old BMX for kids. But somehow the bikes looked lovelier covered in cobwebs.

Harbourlicious

Went to take a dip in Copenhagen's harbour bath next to the Brygge Bridge. Place was crowded with Copenhageners going home from work - or just going somewhere in the nice afternoon sunshine.

The guy with the pink shirt and red helmet is a former colleague, Jacob, a really nice bloke. Just a shame I didn't recognize him until after I'd taken the photo - he was long gone by then :)

Jazzed Up

Town is buzzing with the yearly Copenhagen Jazz Festival. Everyone is out on their bikes, shopping a bit of bebop, avantgarde and New Orleans... 900 concerts all in all. Yes, that's a lot.
