Simply This

Good Things

Oh goodness
Nothing like a bit of Nordic backlightaciousness gracing a Copenhagener on a bike in killer heels.

Scarf Weather
And then you have the Copenhagen version of The French Lieutenant's Woman. Classic style.

LongJohn LittleLulu
And then there is Lululicious. She took a break at the playground to sit in the box of my Velorbis Long John. I haven't personalised it that much just yet. There are stickers for our Danish bike helmet website Cykelhjelm.org and a Slow Bicycle Movement sticker. And the shopping bag for the Slow Bike Movement, too, from the online store.

I had made a box for it but Harry at Larry vs Harry offered to have a bigger one made for me, so I took him up on it. It's great. The kids love riding in it, too:
Kids in the Long John
I only really use the Long John for transporting the kids, but it is brilliant and practical. Old school charm, brand new bike.

Steady On

Steady as a Rock
Steady as a rock. The light was just changing and the other cyclists were doing a double check for cars before pushing off. Some Copenhageners are in less of a hurry.

Raintastic

Rush
Autumnal rain on the bike lanes. A stylish Copenhagen Supermum and her boy in the rainy afternoon rush hour.

Stocking Crossing
Another supermum, 'sans enfant' crossed my path.

Rainbow Rainy Day
'Chic' is, and always will be, a relative term. Nevertheless, a splash of colour on a rainy isn't a bad thing.

Cargo
Red rain poncho, heavy load on the Short John.

CPH Cycle Chic in A-dam

Marc @ Amsterdamize

This is Marc from Amsterdamize who was so sweet to show Copenhagen Cycle Chic around Amsterdam this summer. We can't wait to drink him under the table if he ever dares to show up here in CPH...

A series of Amsterdam beauties:
Light Bright Biking

Stripes x 2 Blond Duo
Cool Contemplation Hop On
Will It Not Stop? Texting Chic
A'goin
Magenta Mademoiselle
Star Quality
Flowerbrella
Summer Whooosh
Having A Pastel Laugh
Feminine Foldability
Dora and Lola

To say whether Amsterdam or Copenhagen is the most cycle chic city is like having to choose between salty licorice and chocolate... (very difficult for a Dane, actually!)

But then, if you can combine the two (CPH & A-dam cycle chic), why bother?

Here's a video Marc shot while biking Velomama (aka Marie) around town. We're discussing the differences between Amsterdam and Copenhagen's bike culture - for instance the use of panniers and boxes vs. baskets, the use of bike locks and the extend of traffic regulation in the two cities...

A golden yellow mini-bike leading the pack.

This is how you watch a concert [lead singer wearing a golden dress] on the City Hall Square. On or beside your bike.

Automotive Sensory Deprivation

Hair
Driving in a car has so many sensory limitations.

You never get to regard peoples' hair at a stop light. You don't get to experience the scent of peoples' shampoo, perfume or cologne at a red light or as they pass you on the bike lanes.

You never hear fingers drumming gently on handlebars as the cyclist next to you enjoys a song on their mp3 player.

Coffee to Go
You don't get to smell the aroma of freshly brewed coffee to go.
Collective Traffic
You miss out on overhearing the passionate discussions of children as they flow through the city.

Snack
You can't hear the crunch of teeth on a fresh, autumn apple.

Carry On, Copenhagen

Two Way Street
Classic Copenhagen street scene, including bikes and a cargo bike ridden by a Supermum in heels.
Blue on blue
City Hall Square one day. Blue on blue with a poncho-clad Supermum.

For more about Danish cargo bike culture, I have an article online at The Los Angeles Times right here.

Autumnal Tuesday

Splendida
The cape lives on despite being sooo last year. We don't mind at all when it looks this splendid. The bow in the hair completes the classy outfit.
If you're wondering, the heavily-laden bicycle in the middle, up front, is a postman. Four panniers and a bag on the front rack.
The Royal Danish Post *
As seen here, too.

Autumnal
The sun is shining and, although the air is cooler, there are some Copenhageners that haven't quite made the jump to autumn just yet. Luckily.

Sunday Somethings

Cargo Bike Supermum
She's got her own thing going on and it works for her.
Interesting Things to Look At. *
There are certain photos I've taken that are Cycle Chic All-Stars. This is an older photo, but it is one of my personal favourites. I hadn't seen it for a while, had a look, and thought I'd repost it.
Felixio
Cycle/Football Chic for kids. Felix heading home from a football tournament. Complete with a well-deserved medal around his neck and shinpads on his legs.
Copenhagen Nursing
A Copenhagen nurse doing her rounds. Visiting the elderly and/or infirm in their homes. By bike, of course.
